The objective of the discovery process remains to get only what you need and in a way that is quick and cost effective. What doesn’t help is many common misconceptions with eDiscovery software.
Equipping yourself with the right eDiscovery solutions will greatly assist this objective.
The problem we all face is today’s data volumes continue to increase rapidly, providing new and evolving challenges for all discovery matters. Unless undertaken effectively the costs and burden of the discovery process can easily (and quickly) spiral out of control.
Appreciating the value of eDiscovery software
Even though many are now using some of the great eDiscovery tools available to combat the challenges of the discovery process, there are still some that are not there yet in appreciating the value of eDiscovery software.
These misconceptions can greatly hinder the appreciation of the true value of eDiscovery software and how these eDiscovery tools are a must to tackle the discovery process.
Some of these myths include, but obviously not limited to –
- Using non-eDiscovery tools for discovery;
- The matter is too small for eDiscovery software;
- The matter is too late for eDiscovery software; and {finally and perhaps ironically}
- eDiscovery is too costly and complicated
Over the next while I will explore each of these myths in further detail.
There is not a one-size fits all approach with the discovery process, but some of these misconceptions can easily be dispelled to show both the value of eDiscovery software and investing time earlier in the process to tackle the discovery process.
How can we do this better ?
To stay relevant to our clients, we should continually ask ourselves – how can we do this better ! Even before considering eDiscovery software, we should ask ourselves what we want to achieve – and with an eDiscovery process this again will usually be to get only what you need and in a way that is quick and cost effective.
Hopefully dispelling some of these misconceptions will help demonstrate the value of eDiscovery software.
